Job Descriptions as Yearbook Staff
As part of the yearbook staff, you are automatically an editor. However, what editorial position speaks as to WHAT you will edit. After we have read the job descriptions as a class, please take this survey to see what job description you would like.
Managing Editor
A managing editor is the second in command to the Editor in Chief. He or she's main duties include:
- Follows up with every editor to make sure that lead content editors (for example, lead sports editor) have finished their work before deadlines
- Makes sure that all content for the week is being covered by an editor during The Week Ahead
- Double checks with Social Media Manager to make sure content is being published daily during the week
- Acts as Editor in Chief when he or she is absent
- More duties will follow
People Editor
- This person is the lead under the "People" section
- Manages the freshman editor, sophomore editor, and junior editor
- Designs and writes the intro in the divider area
- Creates staff page
- Double checks face-to-name content in area
- Collaborates with editors to make sure polls, interviews, and coverage are not overlapped
Freshman Editor
- Create compelling polls, quizzes, and interviews for freshman
- Double checks face-to-name content in that area
- Work with assigned photographer for the Freshman Capstone page
Sophomore Editor
- Create compelling polls, quizzes, and interviews for sophomores
- Double checks face-to-name content in that area
- Work with assigned photographer for the Sophomore Capstone page
Junior Editor
- Create compelling polls, quizzes, and interviews for juniors
- Double checks face-to-name content in that area
- Work with assigned photographer for the Junior Capstone page
Senior Editor
- Create compelling polls, quizzes, and interviews for Seniors
- Double checks face-to-name content in that area
- Work with assigned photographer for the Senior Capstone page
- Creates dual-page spread for seniors with EIC
- Organize senior quotes with EIC
- Manage senior pictures to Arizona Science Center with photographer
Clubs & Groups Editor
- This person is the lead under the "Clubs & Groups" section
- Manages all editors covering assigned pages for clubs and groups
- Designs and writes the intro in the divider area
- Double checks face-to-name content in area
- Collaborates with editors to make sure polls, interviews, and coverage are not overlapped
- Work with Photography Lead to make sure Club and Group Photos are uniform and complete
Student Life Editor
- This person is the lead under the "Student Life" section
- Manages all editors covering assigned pages for Student Life
- Designs and writes the intro in the divider area
- Double checks face-to-name content in area
- Collaborates with editors to make sure polls, interviews, and coverage are not overlapped
- Work with Photography Lead to make sure images for events are taken consistently
Academics Editor
- This person is the lead under the "Academics" section
- Manages all editors covering assigned pages for Academics
- Designs and writes the intro in the divider area
- Double checks face-to-name content in area
- Collaborates with editors to make sure polls, interviews, and coverage are not overlapped
- Work with Photography Lead to make sure images for classes are being taken during big lessons
Lead Photographer
- In charge of all the photos in the image library, which will be published in the yearbook
- Make sure that all images in the yearbook are tagged
- Organize photo library so that photos are organized by Section Coverage and topic
- For example, all Chemistry photos would be stored in "Academics" with a "Chemistry" folder
- Check every photographer's ability to be available to certain events, clubs, and practices for coverage
Copy editor
- Serve as first eye of publication before sending off to Mrs. Constable for final edit
- Copy edit and proofread yearbook as deadlines come in using assigned proofreading symbols
- Copy edits work if students ask for help or a second eye
Social Media Manager
- Places creative content on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat for the 2019 Yearbook
- Updates social media community on ad sales, yearbook sales, and deals
- TBD
